At Commencement, Newman University honors one graduating senior woman and one senior man with the highest student honor it bestows —the Ablah Award. The origin of this award was an endowed gift from Fran and Jeri Jabara, university benefactors, to honor the love of education advocated by their parents.
Sister Therese Wetta
S. Therese Wetta worked in higher education as an educator and administrator and for her community in leadership locally and internationally. More recently, she was a missionary in Tanzania and Liberia.
Prairie grasslands, milkweed planting, and Earth Day Morning Prayer gave the Wichita Center community multiple ways of observing this important day and implementing some of the suggestions from Laudato Si’.
Kelly Mai, an ASC Scholar senior at Newman, is an outstanding young woman who is making a difference and will make a difference in society. The ASC Scholarship program is a memorial to our five ASC Martyrs of Charity. The ASC Scholars are selected after personal interviews and they are required to do 45 hours of service each semester with not-for-profits.
