TONS OF METAL

 Sister Marcia Kruse, ASC

Thousands of tons of metal, plastic and rubber

Racing down the highway

A river of minerals, metals and atoms

Keep in the lines

Mind the white lines

Stay in your lane

Millions of tons, metal, plastic and rubber

Speeding toward us

A counter current, like a river

Stay on your side

Stay over there.

The roar reaches over the sides

Over the railings

Up the hills

Into the homes

Stay within your lines

Don’t sway or wander

Stay in the flow

Or you’ll get demolished

So will thousands of others

A pile-up of tons of metal plastic and rubber

And drivers at the wheel.

Human beings caught on a racetrack

With tons of metal plastic and rubber.

Where are we headed? Where are we going?
