
Sister Janet Rowley, ASC, celebrated 60 years as a vowed member of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ on Sunday, May 17, at the Wichita Center in Wichita, KS. Sister Janet made her first profession on July 1, 1966, and her final vows on June 13, 1971. She marked her anniversary with a Mass at the Wichita Center chapel, and was joined in the celebration by sisters, family, and friends.
Sister Janet was born in Olmitz, KS, to Russell and Esther Rowley. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Sacred Heart College, now Newman University, in Wichita, KS, in 1969, and her master’s in Christian Spirituality from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, in 1978. Her certificate as an Associate Supervisor of Pastoral Ministry was earned in 1993 from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains in Milwaukee, WI.
Sister Janet served as an elementary teacher in Roggen, CO, Conway Springs, KS, Oklahoma City, OK, and San Antonio, TX. In community service she was a member of the Formation Team; she also served twice as a member of the ASC leadership council, first for the former province of Wichita, and later as a councilor on the first team to serve the United States Region of Adorers after the convergence of the three provinces in 2000. She also headed the Precious Blood Spiritual Center in Columbia, PA, for several years.
After her certification by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, she served as Chaplain in hospitals in Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma. After her term as a councilor in the first Leadership Team of the U.S. Region, she returned to her ministry as chaplain for Via Christi Health.
She served briefly on the Interim Community Life Team before being appointed to the current Community Life Team as Pastoral Minister. She lives in a small community in Wichita.
