The publication of this resource book on Mary and the Precious Blood by the ASC Resource Committee of the United States is a welcome addition to the materials that support the ongoing renewal of the Congregations that make up the Precious Blood family. With its focus on Mary’s place and role in the New Covenant brought about by the shedding of Christ’s blood, it follows the guidelines and fulfills the intentions envisioned by Paul VI, by attending to the biblical, liturgical, ecumenical, and anthropological dimensions of genuine Marian piety.

MARY’S ROLE IN CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY: Mary, the mother of Jesus, has always had a central place in Christian spirituality. Anyone who grows in the knowledge and love of the God – Man necessarily grows in love and appreciation of Mary. She had an essential role in the Gospel narrative of Jesus. It was through her “yes” to the will of God in her life that the redemption of humankind was effected. The precious blood that Jesus took from the veins of Mary was the same blood that he poured out on Calvary to re-establish the relationship of humankind with God that had been lost in the Garden of Eden.
