164 – this is the number of persons living on the streets who were gifted and served three meals by the Adorers in Wichita on February 6-7, our annual participation in the Warming Souls program. The latter is a ministry of Humankind, an interfaith nonprofit. The Catholic Diocese of Wichita collaborates with providing meals in February. The Adorers are part of the diocesan initiative with the planning and implementation guided by the JPIC Committee of Wichita Adorers.
An evening meal of chili, condiments, and brownies was served by Srs. Betty Adams, Janet Rowley, and Patty Owens and Associates Martin Mendoza, Jerry Dooley, and Bob Diepenbrock. The chili was made by Sr. Betty, Martin and Nancy Diepenbrock; the brownies by Sr. Therese Wetta. Breakfast was a McDonalds sausage McMuffin served by Srs. Tarcisia Roths and Therese beginning at 7:10 a.m. on the seventh.
A sack lunch of crackers, cheese, fruit, and other snacks plus a bag of popcorn were given to the folks after breakfast. These bags were prepared by sisters living at the ASC Wichita Center with their delivery to the shelter provided by Sojourner Lori Benge.
The Wichita Adorers purposefully engage in this activity around St. Maria’s feast, one way of walking in her footsteps and living out the Gospel and our Assembly calls.
