On Sunday, May 12, 2024, Sister Jeannine Bahr, ASC, celebrated 70 years as an Adorer of the Blood of Christ at the Wichita Center. She made her first profession on July 1, 1954, and her final vows on July 1, 1959.
Sister Jeannine was one of 11 children born in Great Bend, KS, in the family of Henry and Frances Bahr. Her family attended St. Ann Parish in Olmitz, KS. Three of her sisters and three of her cousins were also Adorers of the Blood of Christ. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Sacred Heart College, now Newman University in Wichita, KS, in 1961, and her master’s in education administration from the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH, in 1969.
Sister Jeannine’s primary ministry was teaching. Her service in Kansas included schools in these parishes: All Saints and Christ the King in Wichita, St. Joseph in Offerle, St. Joseph in Humboldt and St. Martin in Piqua. She was both teacher and principal at St. Joseph in Conway Springs and Sacred Heart in Ness City. She also served two years in Massan, Korea, where she taught conversational English to the sisters, priests, women, and children.
She spent a year as a houseparent at Casa San Jose in Grants, NM. Her final ministry was as Assistant Director and staff member at the Center of Hope, Inc./Anthony House in Wichita. She continued to volunteer there until 2013.
Sister Jeannine currently resides at the Wichita Center where she is Living Mission in Later Life.
Sr. Jeannine. I know I have slowed down a lot since we were last together. I want to thank you very much for the well wishes you sent me when I first got sick. I feel bad that I haven’t returned to see everyone, but I just can’t get there yet.
Sister Jeannine was my 2nd grade teacher at All Saints in the early 1950’s. My confirmation name is Jeannine as I loved her so much. My mother-in-law, Mary Ann Farmer, worked with her at Center of Hope. I was able to reconnect with Sister Jeannine there later in life. Her warm smile still lite up the room. Congratulations on 70 years of serving our Lord, Sister ✝️💕
