Sister Anne Marie Meadowcroft, ASC is celebrating 65 years as a vowed member of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ at St. Anne’s Retirement Community in Columbia, Pennsylvania. She made her first profession on Aug. 15, 1956 and her final vows on Aug. 15, 1961.

Sister Anne Marie was born in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, to William and Edith (Schaeffer) Meadowcroft. She received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Carlow College, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1972, and her master’s in Elementary Education/Reading from Millersville University, Millersville, Pennsylvania, in 1977.

For more than 30 years, Sister Anne Marie ministered as a teacher. Although her focus was on primary grades, she also taught at St. Joseph Academy in Columbia for several years. She spent most of her teaching ministry in Pennsylvania at Sacred Heart in McKeesport, St. Rochus in Johnstown, St. Mary in Steelton, Seven Sorrows BVM in Middletown and Sacred Heart in Lewistown. She also taught in the Illinois schools of St. Jerome and Assumption in Chicago; in North Carolina at Our Lady of Atonement in Kinston and St. Raphael in Greenville; in Ohio at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel; in East Chicago, Indiana at Immaculate Conception; and in New York at Precious Blood School.

In addition to teaching, Sister Anne Marie also served as dorm moderator at St. Joseph Academy in Columbia for several years. She was then a home caregiver for six years in New Oxford, Pennsylvania. Her community service included being the Local Coordinator for the Sisters of St. Jerome convent in Chicago and later, the Director of Development for the former Columbia Province.

Following her retirement from full-time classroom teaching, Sister Anne Marie volunteered at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. She also served as a Parish Minister at St. Margaret Mary in Harrisburg. She currently resides in Columbia, Pennsylvania.

    Congratulations on your jubilee! You were my favorite teacher at Assumption BVM in Chicago, and when I was with the Adorers for a short time, you were always kind to me. God bless you.
