Adorers Opened “New” St. Clement Hospital 50 Years Ago
We Adorers had built the original St. Clement in 1900, which we owned and ran. In December 1971, with the help of fundraising partners, we opened the new St. Clement Hospital.

Sister Janet Sue Smith, ASC, born and raised in Chester, IL, worked as a registered nurse (and often parish musician) for 46 years in a variety of settings including Tucson, AZ.; Red Bud, Cairo, and East St. Louis, IL; and the West African country of Liberia. In 2017 she retired from nursing and became liturgist at the Ruma Center. In their new home, Benedictine Living at the Shrine, she uses her music and liturgy skills to assist with chapel and community celebrations.

The ASC Family is a community of Adorers of the Blood of Christ Religious Sisters and those inspired by our values and spirituality. The Adorers were founded by St. Maria de Mattias in Italy and came to the United States in 1870. Today, we work for justice, peace, and love for our dear neighbor all over the world.
