The Wichita Center joined 2.2 billion Christians around the world in celebrating the Season of Creation with Mass focused on Creation on September 1. A display had been set up in front of the altar consisting of plants, a globe, and a multi-colored cloth to represent the beauty and diversity of life on our planet.
After the homily, those participating were invited to bring up a symbol of Creation as a sign of their commitment to preserve Mother Earth. A similar display was in the dining room in Caritas. The displays will remain up until October 4. Although this ends the formal celebration of the Season of Creation, it is encouragement to continue our efforts to reverse the disastrous effects of our consumerist lifestyle.
Other events during the month included in-services for co-workers about the ASC commitment to Creation along with an invitation for them to join us by developing a “Green Plan” for their departments and a showing of the movie “The Letter” about the efforts to get input for the writing of “Laudato Si’” from the voiceless.
