She made her first profession on July 1, 1958 and her final vows on July 1, 1963. She marked her anniversary with the Eucharist, followed by dinner with the ASC community.
Sister Helene was born in Harrisburg, PA, to Jackson and Nellie (Thomas) Trueitt. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Mount Mercy College in Pittsburgh, PA, in 1966, and her master’s from Millersville University in Millersville, PA, in 1975, also in Education.
Sister Helene’s ministry in education spanned more than 30 years. She taught at schools in South Carolina, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. Her ministry included grades first through sixth. She taught at St. Joseph in Hartsville, SC; Our Lady of Atonement in Kinston, St. Francis in Lumberton and St. Peter in Greenville, all in NC; in Ohio she served at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Niles; in Pennsylvania, at St. Mary in Steelton and St. John in Enhaut; she also taught at Immaculate Conception in East Chicago, IN.
Sister Helene worked with the Social Service Agency in Reading, PA, teaching those with various disabilities and working with minority groups. For seven years she worked with the elderly at New Community Corporation in Newark, NJ. She later served as Pastoral Minister for Lamp Ministries in New York City.
Sister Helene currently lives at the De Mattias in Columbia, PA.

God bless you Sister Helene. Have fond memories as a child of you at Mt Carmel in Niles Ohio and coming to our home to climb our apple trees when the nuns came for baskets of apples. You were so kind and fun and made a difference with our Mt Carmel family.
