by Sr. Anne Irose, ASC

I am 93 years of age and becoming blind. Since March 1, 2022, I have made my home at Benedictine Living Community at the Shrine in Belleville, IL. I am able to walk and feel blessed to have a mission here among the 140+ residents.
I greet the dawn with the morning rays of light, grateful for another day of blessings. Sharing morning prayer with the ASCs on my floor gives further strength and direction to the day.
Physical exercise is a MUST for me. So, each day we are invited to participate with other residents in Balancing, Stretching, Tai Chi, Yoga and chair Volleyball.
Daily Eucharist is the center of my day and gives strength to carry any cross.

Entertainment is frequent and of very fine quality. At the New Year’s celebration on December 31, not only one New Year ball, but also many balloons were dropped, bounced, and provided laughter and dancing for all.
My daily walk to the other care facilities, Dammert (skilled care) or St. Francis (assisted living), gives me more exercise. At times I make two or three trips daily. I find joy in greeting those in wheelchairs, confused in memory care, or those finding difficulty adjusting to this new place.
At times I carry messages for those unable to make this walk or simply share news with those without computers.
I think of myself as a messenger as I respond to what touches my heart.

Puede pedir por toda mi familia to la recuerdo a usted muchísimo ❤️
Translation: You can pray for my whole family and I remember you very much ❤️
