Lent is Love – February 21, 2021
Does it ever seem like days just blend into the next day and before we know it weeks and months have slipped away? We just celebrated Valentine’s Day and then Ash Wednesday and now we are into Lent. So is there a connection? If so what?
On Valentines Day, we celebrate love…love of others in our lives and even those we don’t know. We are loved unconditionally by God. As Christians that is what we are called to do, love.
As Pope Francis says, “God does not love us because there is some reason that causes love. God loves us because He Himself is love, and love tends to spread and give by its nature.”
As we transition into the liturgical season of Lent, we are called to more than fasting, prayer, and charity, which is love in action. It is about continuing an expression of love in the simplest of ways, putting God’s love into action.
Rather than getting caught up in the busyness of life and our days just keep slipping by, maybe we need to be still and enjoy the gift of prayer/reflection time with God who brings love into our lives so that we can give that love to others.
Ask yourself, what do I need to do to slow down?
How can I become more deeply aware of God’s love for me and how can I give that love to others?
