A Precious Blood Sun Catcher

It is Good Friday. But, as I gaze upon a particular sun catcher, an Advent antiphon repeats itself within: “Drop down dew, heavens from above, and let the clouds rain down the Just One.” The delicate, hand-made object of my meditation curves slightly with three red beads, two clear, three red, then one long, clear teardrop.

This design brings me to ponder the Precious Blood of Jesus as the dew from the heavens poured from the Just One. The teardrop reflects Hebrews 5:7: “In the days when he was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.” In symbolic display: The red beads—Christ’s blood; the clear beads—the water from his side; the teardrop—his mercy—all poured out in love for humanity. The bend in the beading recalls the utter self-giving of Jesus and our sharing in the paschal mystery. Sometimes, glimmers of gold dance in the room, perhaps Christ’s reminder: “I am your Light; glory both awaits and is present.” The clouds of this Good Day will rain down the Just One anew.

For whom do you pray that the Blood of Christ stream in healing and wholeness?
