The MICA Project – Ministry Update

 Sister Kris Schrader, ASC

by Sr. Kris Schrader, ASC

I am working as a volunteer with the MICA Project which is an organization in St. LOUIS which provides assistance to migrants and immigrants as well as advocacy and community actions on their behalf.

It is a privilege to translate and provide notary services for undocumented persons who are requesting power of attorney and financial power to protect the interests of their minor children. It is heartbreaking to realize in this current political climate there is a need to provide protection for children if parents face unexpected detention and deportation.

We are also meeting with detainees in the Rolla detention center (via Zoom) and soon the Ste. Genevieve center (in person) to hear their stories and see if there are any grounds for filing for asylum. I truly feel the power of our spirituality and the Blood of Christ as I accompany these brave folks.
