Sister Maureen Zubay, ASC, educator, dies at 88

ZubayMSister Maureen Zubay, a Pennsylvania native who was a lifetime educator, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community in Columbia, Pa. She was 88 years old and had been a professed member of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ for 71 years.

She was born on Aug. 9, 1926, in Johnstown, Pa., and began her education at Sts. Peter and Paul School. When the Adorers of the Blood of Christ began teaching at the school after the 1936 Johnstown flood, young Stephanie Zubay responded to the invitation of Mother Hildegard and joined the ASCs.

Sister Lorene Orth, a Kansas native who taught, did parish work and served as province secretary, among her many ministries, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the Wichita Center. She was 89 and had been an Adorer of the Blood of Christ (ASC) for 73 years.

She was born May 14, 1925, in Ost, Kan., into a farming family with nine children. She attended St. Joseph School in Ost where she was taught by the ASC Sisters.

Smiling Sister: Obituary for Sr. Marian Piskurich

marianSister Marian Piskurich, an Adorer of the Blood of Christ, died on Good Friday, April 3, 2015, at St. Anne’s Retirement Community in Columbia, Pa. She was 89 and had been an Adorer since entering in 1955.

She was born Helen Marie on Oct. 28, 1925, in Johnstown, Pa., and was the 11th child in her blended family. Her parents, Stephen Piskurich and Anna Pavicic, married after losing their first spouse. They were members of St. Rochus Croatian Church.

Adorer passes: Sister Emiliana Herman, ASC

emilianaHSister Emiliana Herman died Feb. 4, 2015. She was 96, and spent 69 years as a professed Adorer of the Blood of Christ.

She was born July 3, 1918, to John and Mary (Wille) Herman, and was baptized Margaret Mary in St. Martin’s Church, Piqua, Kansas.

Sister Emiliana was the oldest child in a farming family and began helping her father in the fields after her 8th grade graduation. For the next several years, she worked at two hospitals in various capacities and was a housekeeper for her Reverend Uncle Anthony. 

Sister Floriana Voegeli, ASC, professional pharmacist, dies at 93

Voegeli FSister Floriana Voegeli died Feb. 2, 2015 in Wichita. She was 93 and had been an Adorer of the Blood of Christ for 77 years.

She was born Feb. 5, 1921, to John and Elizabeth (Spexarth) Voegeli, the youngest girl in a family of 10 children. She was baptized Bernadine Elizabeth, the same day in St. Mark’s, Kansas.

Taught by Sister Adorers at St. Mark’s grade school and following two biological sisters who were ASC novices, Sister Floriana entered the community in 1936 while in high school at St.
