Poem: Train Tracks

By Sister Marcia Kruse, ASC

I am Sister Marcia Kruse, ASC and have the privilege of living in Rome for a couple of years, where I have always dreamed of working. At my community’s request, I am learning to speak and translate Italian. Rome for me has been fertile ground for writing. I have all kinds of ideas and scraps of poems and homemade psalms.

Train tracks passed through our little town.
Once in a while a train.
It would blow its horn, but rarely stopped.
We played on the tracks,

Enjoying the night, relaxing with friends,
In a moment became the beginning of the end.
Hearts racing to music just moments before,
Silenced in an instant by a man who swore,

To condemn those with a life different from his.

We pray for all those who were lost that day,
Their families and friends so grieved today.
Memories of better times, may God bless you.
Lives that meant so much, youth gone too soon.
Blood of Christ in the streets once again.

And It Came To Pass

Here’s one of them.

And it came to pass…in those days…

And it came

And it passed.

It did come

And then it did pass.

Poem: Latte and Life

By Sister Marcia Kruse, ASC

Life is like
A Hot Cup of Latte Macchiato
Foaming white hot milk
With a splash of strong black coffee
A dash of pure coffee, the tough times
Bitter, brittle, hard to swallow times
Hard times that make us
Strong, seasoned, courageous, compassionate and wise.
A spattering of dark coffee
That keeps us alert all day long.
Warm foamy milk that comforts the soul.
The Joy and Comfort of family and friends
All things that warm one’s heart,
Like a cup of hot chocolate by the fire
On a cold winter night
After losing a game,

Earth Day Haiku

We believe Earth Day is everyday. Though the festivities of this week are behind us, one of our Adorer Associates Sue Scott Dolan shares three reflections on the earth in haiku form.
