Adorers Elect New Leadership Team

The Adorers of the Blood of Christ have elected a new five-member U.S. Regional Leadership Team, who will assume office for a six-year term in early October 2018.

The Adorers elected the Leadership Team at their annual assembly in late June. They elected as U.S. Leader, Sister Vicki Bergkamp, ASC, a long-time professor of business at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas.

An Adorer for 49 years, Sister Vicki Bergkamp has worked primarily in higher education or as the community’s treasurer. She also served the international community of Adorers as delegate to several General Assemblies and on various international committees. She also has served on many local boards of the Adorers and the Wichita diocese, most recently with Catholic Charities, Dear Neighbor Ministries, StepStone and Villa Maria.

The Adorers also re-elected to a new term two members of the current Leadership Team – Sisters Janet McCann and Maria Hughes, ASC. Sister Janet McCann, an Adorer for 40 years from Cahokia, Illinois, worked in education before being elected to her community’s leadership. She was a teacher for 12 years and an elementary school principal for 20 years, primarily in the Belleville Diocese and St. Louis Archdiocese. She has been serving a first term in leadership, as regional councilor, since 2012. She will serve a second term as regional councilor until 2024.

Rounding out the new Leadership Team are Sisters Mary Catherine Clark and Angela Laquet, ASC.

Sister Mary Catherine Clark has lived and ministered most of her life in southern Illinois, Diocese of Belleville, serving in various pastoral ministry positions including Parish Life Coordinator and Director of Faith Formation. Since 2013, she has served at St. Theresa of Avila, Salem, Illinois, and at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Kinmundy, Illinois. She was provincial secretary of the former Ruma Province and a regional councilor and secretary for the ASC U.S. Region. A native of East St. Louis, Illinois, she has been an Adorer for 52 years.

Sister Angela Laquet, an Adorer for 20 years from Belleville, Illinois, has been an occupational therapist for 24 years, the past 17 years in home health care in the Taylorville, Illinois, area. She has served on the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board for 10 years, and on the Taylorville Memorial Foundation Board for the last six years. She is a member of the Precious Blood Parish Mission Team, and active with Belleville Teens Encounter Christ, ASC Associates in the Taylorville area, and the Springfield Diocesan Vocation Committee.
